November 4th, 2011 A Sweet Treat For those of you who came out last night to Sparkles and Sweets you may have tasted some delicious, homemade chocolate truffles here at Crown Jewelers. A great treat for the holidays! Here is the recipe... Chocolate Truffles 1 Package of Oreo cookies 1-8 oz package of cream cheese Dipping chocolate Chop up box of Oreos and blend in softened cream cheese. I use a food processor. Chill. Form into balls and dip in warm dipping chocolate. Variations include adding peanut butter or mint extract to the Oreo/cream cheese mixture.

Saturday, November 5th, 2011 Now offering on site Appraisals Geoffrey Schultz of the Commonweath Gemological Laboratory is now offering on site appraisals at Crown Jewlers! Mr. Schultz is a graduate of the gemological institute of America and a senior member of the National Association of Jewelry Appraisers. Mr. Schultz travels with a portable gemological laboratory so he can examine your jewelry while you wait! It only takes 10-15 minutes and then a typed appraisal will be mailed to your home. You may also leave your jewels to be examined by Mr. Schultz and continue your downtown shopping. Pick them back up at your convenience! Appraisals start at $60 per item. Mr. Schultz will inform you before appraising if the cost will be different. Please make an appointment so you won't have to wait for service. Saturday, May 15, 2010 Going Green by Carrying Black It seems like everyone is going green these days. As my daughter was flipping through our 500 and some odd channels last night she stumbled upon the show Alter Eco on the Planet Green network. It turns out that there is a whole channel devoted to "eco-entertainment" where you can enjoy continuous environmentally themed programming. Now, I'm not sure how much green TV I will be watching in the future but have to admit that I've been bitten by the green bug. After reading the Omnivores Dilemma, I started to pay more attention to how my decisions affect the world. Thanks to my daughter who contacted the Newsleader (unbenounced to me) you may have read how I helped organize my family's organic and local Thanksgiving dinner this year. All of our food, except for the canned cranberry sauce, came from with-in 100 miles of Staunton. I shop at the farmer's market weekly, wash our clothes in cold water, and I am trying to build a new energy efficient new home.
